After completing a Geography degree in Plymouth and a NCTJ in Photojournalism at Sheffield College, Dan went on to work for the Derby Evening Telegraph, for News Team in Birmingham and then Reuters.
He's been a staff photographer at The Guardian since 2001. Particularly acclaimed for his work in Iraq in 2003, in Indonesia following the tsunami in 2004, and in Pakistan in aftermath of the earthquake in 2006. He moved to Beijing, China in 2007.
His work has featured regularly in The Press Photographer's Year awards and in all of The BPPA's major projects since 2003 including Five Thousand Days and UNSEEN.
Always at the forefront in the application of new technology, he started shooting video with the EOS 5D Mark II as soon as it appeared on the market and is a leading light in the new wave of Digital SLR all-rounders.
